The purpose of this document is to detail the Adhesion techniques inside ChopChop3D Slicer:

Introduction

ChopChop3D Slicer implements the following adhesion techniques:

  • Skirt : which surrounds the part without touching it. It is mostly used to prime the extruder, but you can use it as a thermal shield and ooze shield.
  • Brim : similar to the Skirt except that it touches the part. It is used mostly to stabilize tall objects with very small footprint on the heat bed.
  • Raft : it creates a set of layers providing a strong foundation on which you build the whole print.

Skirt

The Skirt generates one or several insets/perimeters around parts at a given distances.

  • Distance is the distance specified in millimeters in between the last inset and each part.
  • Perimeters is the number of occurrences of insets/perimeters generating the Skirt.
  • Slices is the number of slices where the Skirt is generated.
  • Additional slices are additional slices that are used to avoid any interference with the Skirt and upper slices.
  • Polygon Simplification enables to reduce the complexity of the generated Skirt, you will have to set the simplification distance and the minimum length.
  • Debug is a checkbox used for development purpose, it should be disabled.
  • Extrusion width is the extrusion width used for each inset/perimeter generating the Skirt.

Brim

The Brim extends parts with several outward insets/perimeters at a given distance from parts.

  • Distance is the distance specified in millimeters in between the last inset and each part.
  • Perimeters is the number of occurrences of insets/perimeters generating the Brim.
  • Slices is the number of slices where the Brim is generated.
  • Additional slices are additional slices that are used to avoid any interference with the Brim and upper slices.
  • Debug is a checkbox used for development purpose, it should be disabled.
  • Extrusion width is the extrusion width used for each inset/perimeter generating the Brim.

Raft

The Raft generates one or several slices that acts as a foundation where parts can stick.

  • Distance is the distance specified in millimeters in between the last inset and each part.
  • Perimeters is the number of occurrences of insets/perimeters generating the Raft.
  • Thick Slice Layer Height is the height in millimeters of the thick slices generated first.
  • Thick Slices is the number of occurrences of Thick Slices.
  • Thin Slice Layer Height is the height in millimeters of the thin slices on top of thick slices generating the interface with parts.
  • Thin Slices is the number of occurrences of Thin Slices.
  • Slices is the number of slices generating the Raft.
  • Additional slices are additional slices that are used to avoid any interference with the Skirt and upper slices.
  • Perimeter Minimum Length is used to filter out generated polygons with at least the given length.
  • Perimeter Minimum Area is used to filter out generated polygons with at least the given area.
  • Debug is a checkbox used for development purpose, it should be disabled.
  • Extrusion width is the extrusion width used for each inset/perimeter generating the Skirt.

QuickSlicer specifics

At the QuickSlicer, the Default Extruder is used for all adhesion techniques.

Slicer specifics

At the Slicer, any extruder is customizable for any of the adhesion techniques.

Also, for the Raft all infills are customizable.
